Blessing

I was leaning on the deck railing, when this beautiful tiny feather drifted down and landed on the rail in front of me. The picture is blown up; the feather is only about an inch long.

Lord, please let this be the last visit to the Wizard for a month or so. Or for a year or so.

Speedy

I woke up about 9:00 this morning, and Mr. Reed's guys had already mowed the lawns and left.

Son plat prefere.

C'est la premiere fois que je l'ai mange un cantaloup depuis Mo est decede. Il me manqué, et j'espere que le Rainbow Bridge est un lieu reel.

Goodbye, Coke.

"Coca-Cola has erased its famous script from its new cans. Gone, poof, vanished, leaving behind a naked white ribbon, fluttering against Coke’s theater-curtain-red backdrop.

"FP7/DXB, McCann-Erickson’s agency branch in Dubai, rolled out a limited-edition run of the new package design in Middle Eastern countries for the month of Ramadan, as part of Coca-Cola’s umbrella campaign to fight prejudice, “Let’s take an extra second.” The message behind the stripped down cans: don’t label other people."

Why is it always the best things that cause cancer or otherwise get messed up? Tobacco, Blue Bell ice cream--and now Coca-Cola has recognized an Islamic holiday, which I take as a rather pointed anti-Israel gesture. They didn't have to do that. It was painful, emptying two cans of Coke down the drain. I thought and thought about it, and even tried to drink one of them but couldn't. Also printed out a list of Coca-Cola products to avoid, but fortunately classic Coke, Barq's and Sprite are the only ones I cared about.

It's almost enough to make you cry.

I woke up early this morning, thinking of four different projects that I hoped to finish today. But I couldn't find my thimble, so all that got done was the laundry. It occurs to me that I haven't sewn anything in about two years, so my thimble may not even be in this world any more. But I'm determined to get the projects done soon, even if I have to go buy a thimble.

Wurra, wurra!

Woke up this morning with this Great Purple Spot on my arm.

This is not just your AARP age spot. I thought I was escaping such as this, except for the mole on my right hand. "All is vanity, saith the Preacher."

Seriously, Facebook upsets me too much. It's my most-visited contact with "the world," but I'm going to try to change that by accepting every hint of an invitation or opportunity to get out of the house.

Jenny's Horses

Jenny made these embroidered and appliqued "Persian Puzzle" blocks back in the 1980's. I stripped them together with the red fabric. When I was selling on eBay, my sister Susan bought the quilt top from me, added the pretty borders and backing, and had it quilted in a beautiful pattern. Then she gave it back to me. Am I blessed, or what?

Suze also made and attached this beautiful label that tells the story.

Strange

I'm reading a book, and today I hope to reach the middle of its 1000+ pages. The type font is approximately a 6 in size, but fortunately the page size is paper-back. The book is about magic--indeed, I fear not to allege that the book is magic. Fair warning: Do not plan to read this book  if you are less phlegmatic than Mr. Laurence Strange's excitable new manservant. If you should read as far as page 132, you would be hooked for the whole thousand-plus. It is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but although I don't believe in spells as such, I will not go about muttering the title.

Some joker(s) made a TV series of JS&MN (the female who wrote the book may be the most literate sorcerer in history). Jed and I watched three episodes over the weekend. The book is something else.

Otherwise, it was a very pleasant weekend. Jed, Pat, India and Susan came over to eat Fourth-of-July dinner with me, and brought potluck with them. I made baked ham, potato salad, rolls, green grapes, green salad and ice cream; Susan brought chicken, rolls, baked beans, fresh berries and her wonderful pound cake; and Pat brought a most delicious corn pudding. A good time was had by all, I trust. I just wish the rest of the family had been there, but Andy, Jesse, Buffy et al had other irons in the fire.

I've had two home health visits this week.

Where's the Sunshine?

I've spent an hour this morning letting Gretchen into and out of the rain. The thunder keeps thundering, since sometime yesterday, and the rain keeps pouring. The creek's rising for sure.

All I have to do for dinner is make tea and a salad, and heat the ham. And restrain myself from eating the potato salad.

I was just thinking about memory. Why is it that I go into a room and forget what I went for? But for 50 years or so, every time I make a cup of instant coffee, I remember George Michael Busby saying, "I like a teaspoon and a dash"? Old age is cruel. It takes a lot of philosophy to laugh about it.

I hope the storminess doesn't keep my guests away this afternoon. "They're not going to come. I just know, they're not going to come." All that potato salad for me alone?

Smartest dog in the world, but she hates dog food. This morning she flat refused to even smell the stuff. Such fun, cooking for a dog.
